Addressing the Disproportionate effects of COVID-19 on BAME Communities in Basildon.

Project aim: 

This project seeks to address the disproportionate effects of COVID-19 on BAME communities across the Basildon Borough. 

Research by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) discovered that Britons from black African backgrounds have higher mortality rates at 3.5 times that of white people. Black Caribbeanheritage people are also recognised to also be 1.7 times higher per capita, rising to 2.7 times higher for those with Pakistani heritage.

 

This project will inform, encourage, and support immunity build-up as well as relieve general indirect effects resulting from the pandemic to people from BAME communities, that live withinthe Basildon Borough. 

 
Project Deliverables:

 

  • Provision of high nutritional food vouchers for purchase of cultural/bespoke food items from local grocery stores within the Borough.
  • Provision of hardship funding to households that qualify as "struggling" during the prevalent pandemic climate.
  • Provision of a set number counselling support service sessions to a set number of candidates that require counselling support. 
  • Provision of digital support via short loans of mobile connectivity capable tablets to a set number of households that genuinely require such support.
